Being a librarian drives me to develop my writing skills. Not only in Bahasa Indonesia, my mother language, but also in English - espescially since Im working for a local school with international scope. In fact, writing is not a hard activity. All we have to do just decide a theme, pick certain topic, make the outline and write down the ideas. But in contrary, lack of supporting informations will end with boring writing and increasing difficulties in delivering ideas. So read a lot to find more ideas and information!
The problems mentioned above already enough to encourage me to read and write more often. If those aren't enough, there are few problems exist. I'm teaching journalism as extracurricular for 10th and 11th graders in SMA Lazuardi, Depok, Indonesia. I dont have any educational background in journalism, but this is an opportunity to promote the library. So I have to read lots of resources about it. Im not going to teach without any preparation, right?
Beside that, Im writing my thesis to get my bachelor degree in Library and Information Science, Fakultas Ilmu Pengetahuan Budaya, University of Indonesia. What can I do without reading any references and writing activities?
But most of all, reading and writing are ways to communicate with the world, the community, the people. By reading, we see further from the shoulder of the giants. By writing, we step further more.For me, reading and writing help me to find out who I am.
